Blackwell Switchgrass is a lowland type native, 常年, tall-grass that is well adapted to the majority of the United States except California and the Pacific Northwest.

Switchgrass is categorized as either upland or lowland.  Upland types are typically shorter and generally found on upland sites with lower fertility and drier conditions.
